The Lanpher Memorial Library Story Time program takes place every Wednesday morning at 10:00 and is free and adaptable for all ages of children.
Each week we read, sing, talk and play, explore, create, and have fun.
Summer is coming and we're excited for some great programming to go along with our Summer Reading Theme: "Libraries Rock!"
We are happy to announce that our talented friend and gifted Children and Youth Services Librarian, Rachel Booher, will visit the Lanpher Library Story Time on the second Wednesday of each month for a special Music and Movement program. We kick off our visits with Rachel on June 13th at 10:00.
The Lanpher Memorial Library is one of 26 Libraries in Vermont who are part of the Vermont Early Literacy Initiative STEM program. Each year for the past 2 years, we've explored a different set of STEM concepts. We played around with gravity, ramps, balls and more as we messed around with the ideas of Force and Motion. We even had a visitor tell us that her high school sons were exploring the same ideas in their high school physics class!
Last summer, the Summer Reading Theme was "Build a Better World". What better time to highlight building and engineering ideas in our programs? Among other activities, children built with different materials (straws and connectors, blocks, keva planks...) and problem solved ways to make their buildings stronger....all through developmentally appropriate literacy experiences and lots of play.
This year our theme is "Libraries Rock!". Starting on Wednesday, June 6th at 10:00, our Story Time programs will feature: Sounds! We'll read stories, sing songs, take walks and play around with sound vibration, air, music, sounds in nature...and more.
The primary goal of these programs is to allow children to explore science ideas, materials, and objects in new ways and get them thinking about science as inquiry...Why does that happen? What if I try this instead? All in a playful and open ended way with stories that provide a context for the STEM ideas.
We hope you'll join us on Wednesday mornings at 10:00, or at Night Owl Story Time on Monday evenings at 6:00.
Starting Saturday, June 16th, we'll have a StoryWalk® set up on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail starting at the Depot St. area and heading west.
