BOBCATS IN OUR BACKYARD
STARKSBORO, Vt.: Head to the Starksboro Public Library on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 7:00 pm for an illustrated program, Bobcats in Our Backyard, by wildlife biologist Laura Farrell. The program is offered by the Starksboro Historical Society, Public Library, and Conservation Commission. These groups are working together to present useful and interesting research and information pertinent to our town and region. The program is free. All are welcome.
Bobcats live among us, yet we rarely know they are there. Learn more about these secretive creatures. Where do they live? What affects their population? What are their habits? Do they prey on our livestock and pets?
Laura Farrell is a consulting wildlife biologist from Monkton, VT, who works on issues that arise where carnivore and human landscape uses overlap. She received her Master's Degree in carnivore ecology at the University of Florida. For her Biology PhD at UVM she studied landscape connectivity for lynx and bobcats in New England, and also did a field study of mammal detection methods here in the Champlain Valley—with field sites in Starksboro! She has done research on carnivores in New England, pumas in Patagonia, and jaguars and pumas in Venezuela.
The Starksboro Public Library is located at 2827 VT Route 116 in Starksboro village, Vermont. Parking is in the neighboring Town Center lot.
