As a followup to the program on Vermont's Deaf Culture last week, the One World Library Project will host a screening of the Independent Lens film "Deaf Jam" tomorrow at 7:30 pm the Lawrence Memorial Library in Bristol. It is free, open to all, and accessible to individuals with disabilities.
The film explores the new and innovative world of Deaf slam poetry and the controversy that ensues when a Deaf poet decides to enter a competition with hearing performers. Aneta Brodski's journey becomes richer yet as she, an Israeli immigrant, begins collaborating with Palestinian spoken word poet Tahani Salah.
A DVD of this film has been added to the One World Library collection at the Lawrence Memorial Library and will be available for the public to check-out as with all of the items in the OWLP collection.
The Deaf Culture program and items acquired in conjunction with it has been supported in part by the Vermont Council on the Humanities.
