The High Peaks Bluegrass Band is a North Country regional band that features classic bluegrass, newgrass, old time and gospel offerings with smooth harmonies and carefully crafted arrangements.
Guitarist and vocalist Tom Behan has been playing music most of his life, and has been described as "one of the finest flatpickers you will see in these parts." Jeff Anderson comes from a long family tradition of bluegrass, old-time, and gospel music. His mandolin style complements Behan's flatpicking with melodic soloes and smooth backing. His vocal range gives the band wide latitude and tight harmonies.
Walt Kirby is a long-time fixture in the regional bluegrass scene. His Scruggs-style banjo picking fills the music with the energy and bright sound for which this genre is known. Kirby also plays guitar and sings.
Bassist Stephen Butler is widely known in the area from his decades as a Methodist minister. He has a distinct, ringing "preacher" voice that fills any venue. Steve's favorites are, naturally, gospel-based songs.
Expect to hear selections from Grandpa Jones, Flatt and Scruggs, Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, original music, and traditional classics, as well as some new takes on what has been widely defined as "roots music."
