HI Friends of Honeybees:
Next Saturday is the opening of a new season for the Honeybee Steelband, and we are looking for a larger swarm to bee with us in the Hardwick Spring Festival parade! After the parade, we will be playing a whole set of music, from noon to 1pm, at the Sustainability Tent (Atkins Field). This year, we have three youth in the group, ages 11, 13, and 15, as well as four adults.
Please - help us in our mission! We need a larger swarm to help get the message out to help protect bees and other pollinators. We are especially concerned about engaging people enough so that they will demand that our legislators pass tough new laws to ban neonics, the systemic pesticide that is most responsible for weakening bees and causing colony collapse disorder.
If you would like to be a bee for the parade, please RSVP right away! We have costumes in all sizes (kids and adult), and many signs with important messages, all ready to go. The parade kicks off at 10:30am, with the line-up starting at Hazen Union school at 9:30am.
