Help Hoist New Bat Houses at Nelson Duba Field

Past event
May 19, 2018, 10 to 11:30 AM

Four bat houses, which have been built and painted by the Conservation Commission will be sited for optimum use by bats and installed on hemlock poles at Nelson Duba Field (aka Checkerberry) on Saturday. With leadership provided by Phil Wilson, the Conservation Commission started the project in June 2017. They have learned about the life of bats including their housing preferences. Construction of the houses was completed in October, then locations for siting them were determined. Approval to use the sites was requested and approved. Finishing touches have been added to the first four houses being installed.

The public is invited to help or just to learn about the best practices for bat house installation. All are welcome to help hoist the bat houses into place. Nelson Duba Field is near 37 Pearl Street.

Additional bat houses will be installed at a later date. This project has utilized a 2017 Tiny Grant award through the Vermont Conservation Commission Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation.
