On February 26, 1886, the final day of the Burlington Carnival of Winter Sports, the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association Hockey Club defeated the Van Ness Hockey Club of Burlington, 3-0, in the first ice hockey game ever played between teams from different countries. The contest took place on the ice of the Central Vermont Railroad’s slip in Burlington Harbor. Montreal AAA went on to become the first Stanley Cup champions in 1893.
Join Vermont historians Devin Colman, Brennan Gauthier, Hugo Martinez Cazon and Tom Simon as they discuss Burlington’s place in hockey history.
Also, come and see who among your friends and neighbors will receive Preservation Burlington's 2013 Historic Preservation Awards!
