Come See Harlan County USA

As part of the Global Labor Film Festival, come see the 1977 Oscar-winning documentary "Harlan County, USA" this Sunday, May 6, at 7 PM at the Old Labor Hall, 46 Granite St., Barre.

The film tells the story of the 1973 coal miners' strike against the Brookside Mine in Harlan County, Kentucky. Harlan County was already infamous for its Depression-era "Coal Wars." The film was the first by award-winning director Barbara Koppel and has was selected for the Library of Congress' National Film Registry of works that are considered "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."
