Fine Arts Festival 2018

Past event
May 8 to 10, 2018

My name is Nancy McClaran and I am the art teacher at The Lincoln Community School. Every year in our district we have a Fine Arts Festival at Mt Abraham Union High School. I posted this last year and just re-read the words. They still hold true so here they are again. This is a time when we celebrate the art of the students in our five-town area and display their work in the gym for two exciting yet fairly short days. We put up all of the work on Tuesday. Opening night is Tuesday evening. There are music and dance performances in the evenings, local artists demonstrating their crafts and featured performers on Wednesday and Thursday during the day. All of the children are bussed in to see their work displayed and to see all of the work that the other children have created. Not only is every elementary school child represented but also students from the middle school and high school take up the center of the gym with their incredible work. It is quite an event. Then on Friday morning we take it all down, pack it up and say goodbye for another year.

I have been meeting with each art student from LCS. We have laid out their work from the year and talked about what they would like to hang in the show. They have picked the pieces that they wanted everyone to see. They have also picked one piece in particular that is they feel is the strongest and one that they spoke to me about and wrote about for their display. These words will be included in their piece.

So much time goes into a festival such as this. But the best part is when it begins and people come to share the in the culmination of effort. I encourage you to make some space in your very full week to go to the show and see what these children have created. As you enter the gym, be prepared for dazzling color and inspired perspectives. You wont be disappointed. The Lincoln section is in the left corner in the gym as you walk in from the street. You will recognize us because there will be art statements and photographs of the kids sprinkled throughout the artwork on display. By reading the words of the children and taking in the sharing of their knowledge, hopes and inspirations, you can begin to see an internal glimpse of the valuable beauty of our art program in Lincoln and the thoughtfulness, humor and sometimes humble grace that children bring to us whenever we allow them to speak from their own creative voices.

Please come and share in this event. The arts are an integral necessity in the growth of our children. It is essential that we allow them the creative space and time to find expression and the respect to hear what that means to each of them as individuals. This is important no matter what they go on to do as adults. And thank you for your support of the arts.
