Dear Community Members
Many of you have known those who have survived breast cancer, I joined a non-profit organization that decided that we were missing something in our community – that caregivers who support those being challenged by cancer are an extremely important part of the support team of that person battling cancer. These people, along with the cancer patients needed a way of being together outside – moving – and offering respite during this challenging time.
Susanne Johnson, Executive Director of Healing Winds wanted to give back to her community by starting this non-profit called Healing Winds Vermont providing free three hour - private sails with cancer patients and their family/caregivers – together outside.
Some of you may have been on board and have experienced first-hand what it is like to be out on Lake Champlain on a boat with your loved ones......
Over the past 4 short summer seasons we have taken over 893 individuals living with cancer, their care-givers and loved-ones, sailing on Lake Champlain and we are expecting many more participants this summer. In addition, we are already planning to expand and set up new chapters, over time, up and down the east coast.
2nd ANNUAL SAILABATION - Less than 2 weeks away!
We are celebrating our impact and growth of passengers and supporters with an event that will be a great time and I am asking you to please buy a ticket and join me (us) for an evening of fun, dancing and inspiration as we launch our 5th sailing season, and help us provide those being challenged by cancer with a much needed "Break on the Lake!" SAIL-A-BRATION 2018 will be held on THURSDAY, May 10, 2018 at ECHO Lake Aquarium & Science Center along the water- front in Burlington, Vermont from 6:00 -10:00 with food, (Catering by SUGARSNAP), drinks and the dancing with the fabulous 'Yacht Rock" band The Full Cleveland.
You will hear from some of our recent guests about how the opportunity to be nominated to come sailing with Healing Winds impacted their lives, and truly it MATTERS!
