36 Convent Sq to Be Torn Down & Rebuilt This Summer!

Hello Convent Square Neighbors,

Maybe you have noticed the red 'Z' zoning card in the front window of #36 Convent Square, the white house that has sat vacant for over a year. The property owner, Champlain Housing Trust, plans to demolish this house over the summer and work with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild a similar house. I received a notice in the mail for a public hearing of the Burlington Development Review Board scheduled for Tuesday, May 1 at 5:00 in Contois Auditorium, City Hall and want to pass on the notification to anyone who does not know about this project. All the proposed plans and notes are on file for review at the Burlington Planning & Zoning office in City Hall.

I have looked at the plans and registered my questions with the zoning office. I support the plan in concept but as an abutting landowner I'm surprised that the property owner and / or project manager has not reached out with any information or notification other than the DRB May 1st meeting. Has anyone else been contacted or know if there has been a neighborhood wide notification that I might have missed?

This is a major project taking place in our small neighborhood and according to the mailed notice this Tuesday's meeting marks the deadline to register to participate: 'Participation during the public hearing before the Development Review Board is a prerequisite to the right to take any subsequent appeal. Participation may also be accomplished by submitting a statement letter to the office of Planning and Zoning before the hearing.'
