I wanted to let neighbors know that this upcoming week is "Public Philosophy Week" in the Burlington Area. Public Philosophy Week is sponsored by the UVM Philosophy Department and brings together local philosophers from Middlebury, Saint Michael's and CCV to host Philosophical conversations about a host of topics in an informal, relaxed and non-academic context. There will be conversations about God, immigration, addiction, treatment of animals, ethics of food, and one at the Shelburne Vineyards on wine and taste.

Here is a link to the events on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/publicphilosophyweek/

I will be hosting a conversation about Philosophy and WIne at The Shelburne Vineyards on Friday, May 4th from 6:30 - 8:00. Come share a philosophical conversation about the connection of philosophy to wine. Did you know that the word "Symposium" is derived from the Greek for "wine drinking party"? Come hear why Plato's famous dialogue "The Symposium" about love and friendship, which is also the source for our notions of Platonic love, was paradoxically a wine drinking party. Or just come and have a glass of wine and talk philosophy!

My daughter Lena will be hosting a conversation about the ethical treatment of animals at Archies on Saturday, May 5th from 3 - 5 pm.
