Free Concerts in May

Nothing says "springtime" like the start of Stowe Performing Arts' Noon Music in May concert series! Join us at noon, every Wednesday during the month of May, in Stowe Community Church for a free, hour-long concert featuring outstanding artists from around New England.

RUMBARROCO will kick off the series on Wednesday, May 2 with "Fiesta and Fandangos: From the Old Iberia and the New World." This program features Ibero-american dances and song-dances such as folias, chaconnes, the jácaras and the fandango from the Renaissance to the present. The continuum of music spans the Spanish early Cancioneros (songbooks) in old Iberia, to contemporary folk and popular music from South America, and contradanzas and dances from Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia. Performers will switch from the European viola da gamba and Renaissance guitar to the Venezuelan cuatro and percussion to illustrate similar yet distinctively different sonorities, and the rhythmic and harmonic connections between the continents.

Rumbarroco is an ensemble of acclaimed artists from different latitudes, led by Laury Gutiérrez. In this program, they combine religious and popular music from past and present —chant, Baroque music, and Latin— creating a delicious Latin-Baroque fusion.

As you leave the concert, you will receive a coupon for discount dining at The Whip Bar & Grill, redeemable for lunch or dinner during the month of May. The more concerts you attend, the more coupons you will receive. Bring a friend!

The concerts are free, but contributions are greatly appreciated. Noon Music in May is presented by Irene Bareau, Green Mountain Inn, the Town of Stowe, The Whip Bar and Grill, Radio Vermont Group and The Stowe Reporter, with additional support from Stowe Motel & Snowdrift and Pie-Casso.
