Want to help keep Montpelier beautiful? Saturday, May 5th, is Green Up Day, an annual statewide event volunteers come together to remove litter from Vermont's roadsides and public spaces. We'd welcome your help beautifying Montpelier's streets, roads, parks, and parking lots to keep our city sparkling!
If you'd like volunteer with Montpelier's Green Up Day efforts, stop by Montpelier Alive's Green Up Day table at the downtown Capital City Farmers Market on Saturday, May 5th, between 9am-1pm. At the Green Up Day table, we'll provide you with Green Up Day bags and gloves, and help you adopt a stretch of roadway to green up. We'll also have coupons for volunteers which can be redeemed for goodies at local businesses from around the city on Green Up Day.
Volunteers helping to green up Montpelier can leave Green Up Day bags curbside within city limits. The crew from the Montpelier Department of Public Works will pick up the bags of litter after Green Up Day.
If you're not able to make it to the Farmer's Market on the morning of Green Up Day, you can still volunteer. You can pick up Green Up Day bags in advance of May 5th from the Montpelier City Clerk's Office.
To help coordinate Montpelier's Green Up Day efforts, we are rolling out an online mapping tool that you can use to claim a stretch of roadway to pick up litter from or another Green Up Day project. The online mapping tool allows volunteers to see which roadways and Green Up Day projects have been claimed and which ones we still need help with. To claim a stretch of road, park, or parking lot using the online tool, visit www.montpelieralive.org/greenupmap
Using the pop-out box that appears on the screen under the leaf icon, you can claim the roadway or Green Up Day project you've selected in the map by inputting your name and indicating that you've "adopted" it. You can also indicate how many people participated in your Green Up Day team and how much litter was collected by adding the number of volunteers and number of bags used in the fields provided in the pop-out box. This assists us in planning for future Green Up Day efforts.

Thank you in advance for your help to keep Montpelier clean and green!
