Racism Discussion Group at Jeudevine Library

Past event
May 14, 2018, 7 to 8 PM

Racism and its many faces will be the focus of a new discussion group starting at the Jeudevine Library germinating from the interest of several library users. Using both fiction and nonfiction books, magazine articles, podcasts, videos, online resources, and other media, the discussions will look at various aspects of racism. The group will have its initial meeting on Monday, May 14th at 7 PM at the Jeudevine Library in Hardwick. Starting in June it will meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays until the end of July and resume in the fall.

At the first meeting attendees will watch three short videos called "The Loving Generation," focusing on interracial marriages. The title is taken from the 1967 Supreme Court Case Loving v. the State of Virginia, a landmark civil rights decision of the United States Supreme Court, which invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage.

There will be light refreshments. For more information call the library at 472-5948.
