Norwich University's Sullivan Museum and History Center will host SUNY Maritime College Cadet Kenneth DiBiase in a Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, April 25th at noon. Cadet DiBiase will present "Sailor Almost Forgotten" about Captain Henry J. Hartstene, an early graduate of Captain Alden Partridge's Academy.
Naval Captain Henry J. Hartstene graduated in 1828 and was commissioned into the U.S. Navy that same year. He served on the U.S. Exploring Expedition, the Arctic U.S. Naval Relief Expedition and returned the British Ship Resolute to Great Britain. The presentation by Cadet Kenneth DiBiase, a descendant of Captain Hartstene, will reveal new information and explore the Naval officer's influence, including how the return of the Resolute to Great Britain helped cement the special relationship between the United States and Great Britain.
Cadet DiBiase is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Marine Operations and Deck License while also enrolled in his Graduate degree in Maritime and Naval Studies at SUNY Maritime College.
The talk is held in conjunction with the Museum's exhibit, "Explorers of Norwich: On Land and Sea," which runs through June 30, 2018. This event, sponsored by the Sullivan Museum Associates is free and open to the public and a light lunch will be served.
