In celebration of National Poetry Month Art on Main is pleased to announce the April reading in our 2018 Written Word Out Loud poetry series. On Friday April 27 at 6:30 p.m. join us in the intimate setting of the gallery for readings by Vermont poets Elizabeth Powell and Adrie Kusserow.
Elizabeth Powell is the author of The Republic of Self, a New Issue First Book Prize winner, selected by C.K. Williams. Her second book of poems, Willy Loman's Reckless Daughter: Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances won the 2015 Anhinga Robert Dana Prize, selected by Maureen Seaton. Her work has appeared in the Pushcart Prize Anthology 2013, Alaska Quarterly Review, Barrow Street, Ecotone, Harvard Review, and elsewhere. She is Editor of Green Mountains Review, and Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Johnson State College. She also serves on the faculty of the low-residency MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She lives in Underhill Vermont.
Adrie Kusserow is the author of two collections of poetry, both published by BOA Editions, Hunting Down the Monk (2002), and Refuge (2013). She has been published in The Best American Poetry, The Kenyon Review, The Sun, Salmagundi, Harvard Review and Anthropology and Humanism. Adrie is a cultural anthropologist who works with Sudanese refugees in trying to build schools in war-worn South Sudan. She is an associate professor of Cultural Anthropology at St. Michael's College in Vermont, and earned her PhD in Social Anthropology from Harvard University. She lives in Underhill Center, Vermont.
The readings, which are free and open to the public, will be followed by a chance for conversation and light refreshment. This event is supported in part by the Vermont Arts Council.
