Mindfulness in Drawing Classes Starts May 5!

Past event
May 5, 2018, 9 AM to 12 PM

Mindfulness in Drawing, May 5th & 12th, 9am-12 noon, at the Grange Hall Cultural Center. An artist, author, and retired UVM professor, Michael will lead discussions on mindful drawing and involve participants in many hands-on activities and exercises. This workshop is designed to accommodate both the beginner and the practiced artist. No previous drawing experience is necessary. Michael invites you to come prepared to draw, share your work and thoughts with others, and enhance your creativity through mindful drawing

Topics and activities will include among others: What do we see when we look? Shape consciousness, memory and mark making. Making shapes in representational drawing - the process. Mindfulness and creating the illusion of light and depth. Gesture drawing of the figure.

With mindfulness and self-compassion, we can regain the creative freedom of our childhood and more freely explore our artistic side! In both representational or imaginative mindful drawing, we can reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. In this workshop we will explore shape consciousness (how we can see the world without naming things), our memory of past visual experiences, and how drawing reveals both inner and outer parts of our reality.
