Vernal Pool Walk April 21

Past event
Apr 21, 2018

This Saturday at 9 Am

Vernal pools are small woodland pools that usually dry up by fall. They are the preferred breeding locations for Wood Frogs, Spotted Salamanders, and other amphibians. The Salisbury Conservation Commission would like to locate and map the vernal pools in our community. In preparation for that, we scheduled two educational events: a PowerPoint presentation and a field trip. The Powerpoint presentation was last month, but the field trip will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 9AM to 12 Noon. Salisbury herpetologist Jim Andrews will help us learn to recognize the pools, gather useful information about them, identify egg-masses, and perhaps find a few critters. We will meet at the Keewaydin parking lot near the walking bridge over Route 53 at the northeastern end of Lake Dunmore at 9 AM. Participants will be hiking about 0.4 miles round trip along a rocky trail. Even if you were unable to make the presentation, we hope you can make the field trip and then help us locate and map our vernal pools.

This event is free, open to the public and brought to you by the Salisbury Conservation Commission.
