Retreat on Celtic Spirituality Feb. 1

Past event
Feb 1, 2014

All are welcome to a retreat at Calvary Episcopal Church, Underhill/Jericho (Rt. 15) Feb. 1. Celtic Spirituality is creation-affirming. Feb. 1 marks the beginning of Spring for the Celts. The theme of the retreat is "thin places", both in time and in space, thresholds of encounter with the holy. The Rev. Dr. Regina Christianson, an experienced retreat master, will lead the guided meditations. The three guided meditations will center on being aware of the presence of the holy within creation and during times of change. Most of the time will be spent in silent private meditation and prayer. There will be conversation time at the greeting, during lunch, and after the closing prayers. The day starts at 9AM with coffee and a greeting in the parish hall, the entrance of which is at the park lot. A soup and bread lunch will be provided. The retreat will end by around 3:30. A contribution for the use of the space will be appreciated but not expected.

If you cannot come to this retreat, Rev. Regina will be leading the Lenten retreat at Rock Point, March 7-9. The theme of that retreat will be: The Quantity of an Hazelnut: All shall be well (Julian of Norwich)

Julian of Norwich, a medieval English holy woman, experienced God as Love. Julian lived in the time of Black Plague, when peasants rose up in revolt and were slaughtered for it, when reformers were executed as heretics. In a world that was rife with injustice, violence, and sickness, she heard a word from God. The word was of compassion, hope, and forgiveness. With these words came images conveying the depth of God’s love and care for us humans. These timeless words and images have brought inner healing and peace to many. The retreat will take three of those images and consider them in reference to our Lenten journey, the pilgrimage through the desert to the Garden of the Resurrection.
