Calling All Youth: A Summer Musical
What: A Musical Play entitled Rescue in the Night by Allen Pote and Tom Long This is the Old Testament story of "Daniel and the Lions' Den," told in an upbeat way. It depicts youth having courage and demonstrating good decision-making while learning to respect and support others. The cast learns to sing and act as a part of a community of other youth. Everyone is included and encouraged to stretch their abilities and acquire new skills.
Where: St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 146 N. Main St., Fair Haven, VT
When: Daily Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 3 pm, June 25-29 Saturday, June 30, 9 am to 1 pm, Warm-up and Dress Rehearsal Saturday, June 30, 5:30 pm Warm-up, 6:30 pm, Presentation for Parents and Guests Who: Youth age seven through twelve. (Ages are somewhat flexible.) No prior acting or singing experience necessary. The emphasis is on enjoying the process.
Taught by: June Hale, thirty years experience as public and private school music teacher, director of over one hundred musical shows in schools and churches. Assisted by volunteer parents.
Schedule Overview (Monday - Friday:)
9:00 - Check-in and greeting
9:10 - Opening exercise aimed at building each child's sense of self-confidence 9:20 - Rehearsal
10:45 - Break, Snack (Supplied)
11:00 - Resume Rehearsal
12:15 - Lunch (Each child brings a bag lunch and drink.)
12:45 - Afternoon activity such as picnic, hike, movie, local trip to a museum, etc.
2:15 - Short rehearsal with emphasis on memorization of script 3:00 - Sign-out to parent/guardian
Additional Facts: This is a fun way for children to be exposed to acting and singing in a nurturing, low-key environment where the emphasis is on developing confidence while having fun. A community spirit develops among the youngsters as they learn the lines and songs of this upbeat musical.
Cost: $150. per child which covers scripts, a personal copy of the audio CD of the musical to aid with memorizing lines and songs, the cost of the snacks, and afternoon activities. Scholarships are available. No one will be turned away because they cannot pay the tuition.

Parental Support: Parents/Guardians are encouraged to volunteer at least one afternoon to help supervise and transport the youth to afternoon activities. Mrs. Hale accompanies all activities as well. Everyone is also invited to Saturday night's performance. There will be no special costumes or sets, but a few props will be needed.
Parents and Guardians are welcome to observe rehearsals and attend afternoon activities. We will need a few volunteer drivers for afternoon activities.
Drivers must have current driver's licenses and proof of car insurance. Safe church practices require two adults in each car which transports children.
