"Creating and Managing Wildlife Habitat" with Andrea Shortsleeve, a habitat biologist with the Vermont Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, who will discuss how to create and manage wildlife habitat on private lands for a variety of species, from songbirds to butterflies, to game species such as deer, bobcats, turkeys and partridge. She will also talk about the federal Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) which provides landowners with free professional conservation planning on their property and funding to complete recommended habitat improvements.
"Landowners are an essential part of the state's conservation effort," said Shortsleeve, who noted that 80 percent of Vermont's land is privately owned. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in wildlife habitat management and conservation techniques to this discussion.
This program is on Wednesday April 25, 7 P.M. at the Dummerston School, Schoolhouse Rd. in East Dummerston (just off of Route 5, 3.8 miles north of the exit 3 roundabout).
Sponsored by the Dummerston Conservation Commission and the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center. Free (Donations welcome!)
