Mark your calendar, Green Up Day is Saturday, May 5. That means Green Up WEEK starts April 29th! Every spring, communities all over Vermont pitch in and clean trash from public roadways. We hope you'll join us in Greening Up all of Calais! Bags will be available soon at the Maple Corner Store, Adamant Store, Town Office, and the East Calais Store. At each location there will be a Calais Road Map posted, please highlight the road(s) you plan to Green Up, so we can cover as much ground as possible. Feel free to start early and Green-Up throughout the week. You can temporarily leave official Green "Green-Up" bags by the side of the road, but the town **WILL NOT** pick up any trash by the road, you are responsible for bringing any bags you fill to one of our two drop off sites.
This year, we are adding a new component, Root-Up Day! The town Roadside Vegetation committee is working with the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation to map roadside vegetation in Calais, including identifying areas where Invasive Species grow on our roadways. By identifying their locations, we can help control their spread by, among other things, altering our mowing patterns. When you pick up your bags, feel free to also pick up a Root Up Day packet. Stay tuned for more details!
Drop off locations will be open from 9 am until noon at both the East Calais Dump on Moscow Woods Road and at the Maple Corner Store. Please sort trash from recycling. We'll also be collecting returnable cans and bottles separately.
Coffee and home baked goodies will be available at each location. We'll be collecting Invasive Species maps at each drop off site. If you have any questions, respond to this email or call Jamie Moorby (802-595-9525) or Janet Pocorobba (802-249-4997).
See you on the roadside!
