Swing Noire Opens the Old Firehouse Season With Gypsy Jazz
Spring must be here, because the Tinmouth Old Firehouse Concert's Spring season has begun!
A hot jazz club in Tinmouth? Paris in the 30's? Swing Noire brings you into those dark smoky clubs of days past, makes you feel jazz the way it was meant to be felt, full of emotion and energy. There's no smoking in the Firehouse, and they keep some of the stage lights on, but every time Swing Noire has visited we went home excited. We'll be hearing them again at the Tinmouth Old Firehouse on Friday, April 13, at 7:30 PM. This acoustic hot club style quartet is made up of versatile violinist David Gusakov, who also plays in the Vermont Symphony violin section and with his son as Last Train to Zindov; twins Rob and Jim McCuen on solo guitar and double bass, and rhythm guitarist Jared Volpe. What made (and makes) this music unique is the use of 2 – 3 guitars, double bass, and in the traditional lineup, a swingin' violin. They take inspiration from Django Reinhardt along with the American Hot Jazz of the early 1900's.
The Old Firehouse is at Mountain View Road and Vt. 140 in downtown Tinmouth, between the current firehouse and the Town Office building. Doors will open at 7 PM. There is a suggested donation of $10 to $15, 90% of which goes to the performers and the rest to the town for upkeep of the Old Firehouse. Home made desserts, coffee and tea will be available. Donations for them will help support community activities.
