The Science to Action Project Presents :
Mapping Jericho’s Natural Resources

Thursday, January 30, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Jericho Town Hall, 67 Vermont Rte. 15

Be among the first to see the long-awaited natural resources inventory map of Jericho and neighboring towns. Months of expert field work and analysis have led to the creation a map that illustrates the broad array of resources that give our area such natural appeal and vitality.

Since last spring, a team of professional ecologists has been working at the behest of the towns of Bolton, Richmond, Jericho and Huntington to create the area’s most comprehensive natural communities map to date.

Arrowwood Environmental of Huntington began the project by identifying core forest areas, deer winter habitat, riparian corridors, cliffs and ledges, vernal pools, wetlands and potential wildlife corridors. Combining on-the-ground surveys, aerial photo analysis and previous field research, the firm assessed the towns’ natural communities for their local and statewide significance to create a map to help residents and local governments better meet town goals for planning and conservation.

The mapping work and technical help are part of the Science to Action Project, a cooperative effort among the towns of Richmond, Bolton, Huntington and Jericho to help the public and town officials better understand and manage the unique natural resources that make their communities so special.
