Don't you wish Hinesburg had a movie theater? Especially in the winter when you don't want to drive far? Now it does (sort of...). I am participating in a 100-mile charity bike ride this summer in order to raise money for JDRF - the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, because my niece has Type 1 Diabetes. I am hosting a series of movie nights at the town hall as a fundraiser. We've got a digital projector, good speakers, and a relatively large screen. So let's go to the movies!!
Tickets (a donation to JDRF): $3 for adults, $2 for 12 and under.
When: The first movie will be on Saturday, February 8th.
7:30pm-8pm: Doors open, buy snacks (see below), watch video shorts.
8pm: feature presentation: Breaking Away. see http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/breaking_away for more info. Watch trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1jzs6dk4bs
Rated PG. 1hr 41min.
You may bring your own snacks, but we also hope to raise some additional money from snack sales. We'll have for sale: homemade baked goods, soda, juice, packaged popcorn and pretzels, and VT Smoke & Cure RealSticks. As with the admission cost, all money from snack sales goes to JDRF.
You may bring you own chair (such as a lawn chair) if you feel it would be more comfortable than the town hall's folding chairs, as long as it won't scratch up the floor (can put duct tape on the feet if they might scratch).
Children are welcome (and no charge for those 3 and under), but as with any movie theater, children need to be relatively quiet so that everyone can enjoy the film. The 2nd movie night will be a more kid-oriented film. Watch Front Porch Forum for that announcement.
I could use a volunteer or two, to sell tickets and to sell snacks, and/or to help set up and/or clean up. Let me know if you're willing to help.
I'd like to make movie nights a regular occurrence. When/if I've raised enough for my charity ride, we could choose another charity to benefit (and/or lower or eliminate the ticket price). If you have ideas or suggestions, let me know (does anyone have Pixar animated shorts on DVD?).

Please spread the word, especially to people in neighboring towns!
