Honoring Martin Luther King Today at Unitarian Church of Montpelier - 6:00 pm
Today at 6:00 pm, there will be a gathering on the front steps at UCM, to acknowledge the death of Martin Luther King, 50 years ago in Memphis, on April 4, 1968. He was shot shortly after 6:00 at the Lorraine Motel, and died an hour later in hospital.
We will ring the church bell and stay together for a time. Anyone is welcome to speak or offer a brief reading, as people are moved. Other churches have been asked to ring bells also. Though City Hall staff were eager to ring their bell as well, they discovered that it doesn't work.
