Willow Basketry with Prin Vangulden

Past event
May 19, 2018, 8:30 AM to 5 PM

Most of us are familiar with the "wicker" willow baskets that have woven their way into our lives. Many of us don't consider making this type of basketry, even when we've decided to take up the craft, because it can seem a little daunting. It's hard to tell where you might even begin.

Willow basketry has rich and varied traditions with good reason. These baskets are some of the strongest and most versatile around. From bicycle panniers to ballooning baskets, we ask a lot of this modest swamp loving shrub. In collaboration with practiced hands, Willow always rises to the occasion.

In this class we will learn some fundamentals of stake and strand basketry that will serve us well in future basket making endeavors while making a stout round basket.
