9:30 AM – 12 Noon, Family Fun Run and Mutt Strut. Registration 9:30 AM, råaces start at 10 AM, at the Rec Center at Anderson Field off Butler St.
This will be a semi-competitive, untimed Family Fun Run (or Stroll) open to kids, dogs on a leash, adults, grandparents, etc. We will follow a short loop in the Butler St. neighborhood with distance and the number of loops decided at the beginning of event; somewhere between 100 yards and three miles - depending on age, species and weather conditions. Prizes will be given out for best costume, largest finishing family team, fastest kid-dog team, youngest finisher, oldest finisher and most style points as determined by our esteemed panel of judges! The event ends before Broom Ball begins at noon.
10 AM – 4 PM, Back Country Ski - Rescheduled from January 19th: Little River Park, meet up at the Waterbury Dam. A gentle to moderate climb up the Stevenson Brook trail to the site of Waterbury's "Last Block Sawmill.” A steam powered band saw mill dating back to 1916 and an excellent place to have some lunch. Enjoy the beauty of the winter woods and the sounds of the frozen brook before continuing on to a nice "green circle" ski back to the trail head on a wide snowy trail. Skis with scales or climbing skins and supportive boots are desirable for this adventure. Throw an extra layer in your backpack and don't forget your lunch and some water. It's about a three-hour tour covering roughly 4-1/2 miles..
12 Noon – 4 PM, Second Family Broom Ball. Waterbury Recreation Center Outdoor Skating Rink. Broomball is similar to hockey but no skates needed! Players wear their own boots/shoes. We provide the goals, sticks and balls. Helmets are recommended, but not required. Teams should be adult-child co-ed and up to 11 players per team with a six-player minimum. Broomball is played with five people and a goalie on the ice. This is a double elimination tournament. Exact times and schedule will be determined by the number of teams and we will contact each team captain prior to the tournament with your first game time. $10 per adult, $5 per child. Players and parents must sign a waiver. So gather your team for a day of fun & get your registration in, or just show up to be picked up! There are bragging rights to be won!
4 PM – 5 PM, Closing Ceremonies at the Rec. Center. An impressive parade of all award winners and participants still standing at the end of DAY TEN of Waterbury Winterfest 2014 will culminate in a surprise display of undisclosed luminosity!
