Dear Neighbors,

This Monday, the City Council will convene its second of two meetings for the month of March. As always, our meeting will be held in Contois Auditorium in City Hall.

This is the last meeting of the Council year. At our next meeting on April 2, we will begin a new year with our Organization Day which will include the swearing in of our Mayor, City Councilors and the Mayor's State of the City address.

We will begin our evening with a Local Control Commission meeting. First and Second Class Liquor Licenses are up for renewal at this time of year and our agenda will include these renewals as well as outside consumption permit renewals. There are a few that will be on our deliberative agenda for a variety of reasons, including Stonecutter Spirits, The Back Bar, Bistro de Margot and Shanty on the Shore.

We will begin our Council meeting immediately thereafter.

Our first item will be a report on the christening of the USNS Burlington. This ship is the tenth Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport and will be operated by the Military Sealift Command. It was christened on February 24 by the ship's sponsor, Marcelle Leahy and launched on March 1, just a week ago. It is the first ship in naval service to be named after our City.

Our second item is a resolution sponsored by the full City Council honoring Antonio "Tony" Pomerleau and his many contributions to Burlington and Vermont.

We have seven items on our deliberative agenda.

The first two are entertainment permits, one for Stonecutter Spirits and the other for Shanty on the Shore. We will then have a public hearing and a vote on an ordinance concerning retaining walls.

We have three resolutions on our agenda. The first is one honoring David White for his acceptance as a Fellow to the American Institute of Certified Planners. The second is a resolution requesting the Secretary of the Air Force to provide an alternate mission for the Vermont Air National Guard. This resolution is in response to the ballot question #6 on the Town Meeting Day ballot. The last resolution is an update to the 2011 French Friendliness resolution which encourages accommodation to French-speaking natives and visitors to our City, signage translation and continuing to partner with Alliance Francaise and other local groups to increase opportunities for French language and cultural education.

You may access the Council agenda at http://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public Please note that all Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone. Please go to youtube and type in "Burlington City Council meetings" and the live stream will come up.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. I hope you have a good weekend.

My best,
Karen
