An Evening with Billy Collins

Former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins, author of The Rain in Portugal, Aimless Love, and other books, will speak and read from his work at Burr & Burton Academy Gymnasium in Manchester. The event, "An Evening with Billy Collins," is part of the Vermont Humanities Council's First Wednesdays lecture series. (Note: This event takes place on the second Wednesday in April on a special date.)

The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required for attendance. Seating in the gymnasium is first come, first served.

Billy Collins is an American phenomenon. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. His work has appeared in a variety of periodicals including The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The American Scholar, he is a Guggenheim fellow and a New York Public Library "Literary Lion." His last three collections of poems have broken sales records for poetry. His numerous books include Sailing Alone Around the Room: New & Selected Poems,The Trouble With Poetry and Other Poems, and Aimless Love: New and Selected Poems 2003 – 2013. His most recent book is The Rain in Portugal and is a New York Times bestseller. In June 2001, Billy Collins was appointed United States Poet Laureate 2001-2003.
