Bearing Witness - Creative Arts Workshop for Caregivers, presented by Tracy Penfield and Carrie Caouette-De Lallo

Where do caregivers put the powerful stories of those they care for? How do they process the deeply intimate information about the lives of others while maintaining a healthy perspective on their work and in their own lives?

This three-hour workshop will offer opportunity for caregivers in any field (educators, medical personnel, social workers, personal companions, hospice workers, etc.) to explore a variety of creative tools for managing those stories. Using Mindfulness tools, we will practice regulating our own emotions and remember the importance of self-care. We will be writing with a purpose, using visualization and writing prompts as well as choices of drawing, painting, and collage making. Participants will focus on the creative process with a mix of materials as a way to maintain personal wellness. All skill levels are welcome as the focus is not on the finished product, rather, the process of creating as a way to frame our experiences.

Co-presenters Bio's:

Carrie Caouette- De Lallo has been an educator for nearly thirty years working with adults and children with a range of challenges. She is an artist and recently left her career to focus on her own art. She holds an undergraduate degree in Special Education and Art from Keene State University and a Masters degree in Creative Writing from Dartmouth College. She was a co-advisor for The Art of Healing, an international exhibit of artwork created by victims of domestic and sexual assault.

Tracy Penfield is the Founding Director of SafeArt. Her primary creative media are dance and fiber arts. She has been caregiving for thirty years as an educator, community workshop and group leader, hotline volunteer and with individuals in her practice of Tracing sessions at the Center for Integrative Health in Hanover NH and at Altus Healing Arts in Chelsea VT.
