It is a Plant Cordage Workshop: Making Rope from Plant Fiber by Denise Ashman Krause at the Johnson Public Library on Sunday afternoon.
In this fiber craft workshop, you will learn how to make rope using a stalk-y plant called, Dog bane! If you know how to work with plant fibers, you can knot, splice, weave, lash, net, and loop your way to success! All over the world, our ancestors used natural plant fibers to lash shelters, haft tools to handles, make nets for fishing, fashion baskets for gathering and food storage, weave clothing, sew, maneuver waterways with woven sails, craft musical instruments, and fluff fire-ready tinder bundles!
A member of the Conservation Commission, Denise is an adventure-based educator and a naturalist. Join us! Make some rope and see some interesting samples of items made from plants and trees! This workshop is most appropriate for adults and youth, ages 14 and up! It is free.
