See the spectacular on our Main Stage! Bringing insightful and incisive contemporary theater to audiences since the 1960’s, Bread & Puppet are nearly unrivaled in terms of Vermont’s artistic contributions to entertainment and culture in the US and the world. Out of Joint Hamlet will push our stage to its limits, filling the venue and your experience with marionettes of epic proportions operated from high above. Proudly presenting two performances in partnership with Bread & Puppet: Saturday, April 7 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, April 8 at 3:00 pm. Please reserve your seat, suggested donation at the door $10.00.
About the Show
Hamlet’s out of joint reality, in light of the US’ out of joint 2018 reality, comes to life with the Bread & Puppet Friends and Neighbors String Pulling Co. The show features cardboard giants operated from high above: king and associate skeleton, naked ghost and free-floating Ophelia; whereas Hamlet, Horatio, Polonius, Laertes, his mother, and uncle are fist puppets. The ever-present 2D population is, according to circumstance, either a) correctly upright, or b) turned upside down. The rest of the cast are moguls, hippies, white supremacists, perfect normality citizens, a snake charmer, and an oversize ear to demonstrate the art of poisoning that which is not wanted.
Hamlet’s depressed monologues are contrasted with Emily Dickinson’s every day ecstasies.
Call for Community Volunteers
