The Middlebury Chapter of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ilsley Library Community Room.
Ross Conrad, Beekeeper, will do a presentation and question/answer session titled:
"Birds, Bees & Butterflies in the Land of Milk and Honey:
Challenges and What We Can Do"
Everyone is welcome! No need to belong to AAUW and no pressure to join.
There will be another public meeting on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:00 p.m., also in the Ilsley Library Community Room, by author Jack Mayer to discuss his books "Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project" and "Before the Court of Heaven"
Some information about AAUW:
NATIONAL AAUW
~ Focuses on empowering women in many different ways
~ One thing that impresses me about national AAUW is the money they give to further women's education: AAUW is "one of the world's largest sources of funding for graduate women. AAUW is providing more than $3.7 million in funding for fellowships and grants to 250 outstanding women and nonprofit organizations in the 2017–18 academic year."

MIDDLEBURY BRANCH
~ We meet monthly, from September to May, and focus on both local and global topics.
~ One does not have to attend every meeting!
~ We raise money for women's post-graduate education with one fundraiser a year. The last two years we have sent national AAUW about $1600 each year for women's fellowships and grants.
~ We support the Sister-to-Sister program for middle school girls in the area, who connect with Middlebury College students
~ We give awards to high school students for excellence in languages, science and the arts.
~ And this year we actively supported Vermont legislation to more clearly define pay equity.
~ Any person who joins AAUW at one of these meetings will only pay half the dues for 2018-2019 ($29.50).
