On Wednesday the 14th, Mt. Abe will be hosting a school walkout to commemorate the 17 lives lost at Stoneman Douglas High in Florida with 17 minutes of silence. There will also be activities such as Poetry Out Loud composing and reciting a poem, and artwork that can be made by students. After the 17 minutes of silence, Acapella will be singing "Amazing Grace." This is an all-school, admin approved memorial walkout. Following this, at about 10:40-11:00, there will be a non-admin approved march to the Bristol park as a protest against gun violence. There will be educational booths, voting registration by Sally Ober, petitions, music, guest speakers, and more. Be sure to bring money if you would like to buy donuts, chips, coffee, or hot chocolate brought by Almost Home Market! This will last until about 1:00, when students will go back to school. All students attending this will have an unexcused absence and will not be allowed to partake in after-school activities. The march to the park is open to all communities and people. We want as many people as possible to come and share their voice to say #neveragain. If any middle school students plan to attend (which we encourage them to) they must be called out of school by a parent or guardian. If you have any questions you can contact me at 21shepm@anesu.org. I hope to see you there!
