At its last meeting on February 20, the Essex Westford School District Board approved the FY’19 budget for the district. The total proposed expenses, before capital allocation, for FY’19 is $76,618,154, which is a 1.77% increase over FY’18 approved budget. The proposed budget, before capital allocation, results in Educational Spending per equalized pupil for FY’19 of $15,814, which is down approximately $131 from FY’18. At the state level, the Board voted on two memos (memo 1: http://bit.ly/2FfddSq | memo 2: http://bit.ly/2CTvHTh) to be sent to our local legislators in response to proposals presented by Governor Scott. These proposals (http://bit.ly/2F5lo4c) can be found in detail online. Within these memos, which were approved by a vote of 7-0, the Board Chair and Vice-Chair drafted responses as to how our own district would be specifically impacted by the changes suggested by the Governor's office. In many cases our district would not be impacted, but there are some notable areas regarding IEP extraordinary reimbursement and cost sharing arrangements for employee health benefits that would. Further, the Board has disagreement with other proposals involving spending caps and a two-vote budget structure in specific that are detailed more thoroughly in the response memo.

The EWSD Board will next meet on Thursday, March 8 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Essex High School Library.
