Norwich University’s 2018-19 Writers Series presents award-winning author Elizabeth Hand on Monday, March 26, at 4 p.m. in the Kreitzberg Library Todd Multipurpose Room. This event is free and open to the public.

The author of fourteen novels and four collections of short fiction, Hand has won the Nebula, World Fantasy, James Tiptree Jr., Shirley Jackson, and Mythopoeic Awards. Hand’s work encompasses all modes of the fantastic and, more recently, has branched into crime fiction. Her 1997 novel “Glimmering” forecasts issues of climate change that occupy today’s headlines. Legendary musician Richard Thompson of Fairport Convention praised her award-winning 2016 novella “Wylding Hall” for its magical portrayal of the British folk-rock scene of the early 1970s.

The New York Times called Hand "a superior stylist;" Booklist praised her explorations of "the translucent borderland between magic and reality;" and Publishers Weekly declared: "Hand does for upstate New York what Stephen King has done for rural Maine."

Her most recent books are “Hard Light” (St. Martin’s Minotaur, 2016), the third book in her series of crime novels featuring photographer Cass Neary, and “Fire. Plus…” (PM Press, 2017), a collection of stories and essays. She is a longtime reviewer and critic for the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times and teaches in the University of Southern Maine Stonecoast MFA Program. She lives on the Maine coast.

Hand is brought here by the Norwich University Writer’s Series and will give a presentation about her works and achievements. She will then open the floor to questions from the audience.

Norwich Writer’s Series is produced by the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of English and Communications. All Writer’s Series events are free and open to the public.
