Community Forum on Safe Sharps Disposal
In Barre, as in many other communities around Vermont, syringes, needles, and lancets (generically referred to as ‘sharps’) have been found in locations such as parking lots, parks, public bathrooms, and on sidewalks. When sharps are improperly disposed of, they put sanitation workers, community members, children, and pets at potential risk of injury and disease. The Greater Barre Safe Sharps Alliance, a partnership between several community organizations, led by the Barre City Fire Department, is taking steps to address this public health issue. The Alliance was granted a contract from the Vermont Department of Health to install five mailbox-style kiosks and fourteen wall units in Barre to provide more safe disposal options.
Please join us for a Community Forum to learn about the issue, hear from panelists who have been working to address the problem, and share in a community conversation.
