Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. — Winter Tree Walk and Potluck Lunch
County Forester Bill Guenther will lead a winter tree identification walk along the woodlands of WRWA members who live in eastern Halifax, near the Guilford town line. Bill will describe how to use characteristics such as branching pattern, bark, habitat, and growth form to identify about 18 species of native Vermont trees. Bring your snowshoes, as this part of Halifax tends to have snow cover throughout the winter. The walk will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch.
As space is limited, people who would like to participate should contact Linda Lyon (LindaALyon@gmail.com or 802-368-2211) by 21 February. When you contact Linda, please let her know how many people you will be coming with. She will send detailed driving directions. Parking is somewhat limited, so please carpool if you can.
We hope to have deep snow, but the level terrain and frequent stops to discuss the trees should allow for easy walking. If you have never snowshoed, don’t let that discourage you. If you can walk, you can snowshoe. If you prefer to use poles, please bring them. This is a family-friendly event, but please leave your dogs at home.
