Social Justice Workshop Kick-Off Mar. 2

Dear Marlboro Community,

Social justice includes a vision of society that is equitable and all members are physically and psychologically safe and secure. It’s hard to believe that well into the 21st century the concept of a safe society for all continues to elude us.

Oak Meadow, an independent learning center based in Brattleboro, has created a new course designed to help parents and teachers bring social justice concepts into the classroom and turn those concepts into actions within the community.

The Association of Marlboro Parents (AMP) is inviting all Marlboro parents, teachers, and community members to join us in a discussion series focused on social justice in our community.

The course, which is broken down into 7 units, includes readings, activities, discussions, and reflections. We will be discussing one unit at each monthly meeting. The course costs $15 and can be downloaded onto any device that reads a pdf. Financial Assistance is available for those who desire it. For a sneak peek at the curriculum click on this link; https://oakmeadow.com/news/2017/08/30/new-course-for-parents-foundations-in-social-justice/

We will be having a kick-off on Friday, March 2nd at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will focus on setting group norms and outlining our work together. After that, we will be meeting the last Friday of every month, starting in the month of March. A light dinner and childcare will be provided. We’ll ask you to please rsvp before each meeting to let us know how many children you need childcare for.

Social justice is not merely a goal but also a process, dependent on its participants, a desire for the common good, and the compassion of each community member.
