The Calais Town Hall Committee invites you to an open house this Saturday, February 17, from 1:00 to 3:00, with a formal presentation at noon, at the Town Hall in Gospel Hollow (1662 Kent Hill Road). Come see the proposed plans for Phase II of the Town Hall renovation. Drop by to view the work that has already been completed and experience firsthand the disrepair, inaccessibility and other issues that prevent the building from being used to its full potential.
On display will be before-and-after models of the Town Hall; a site model of the property showing the base flood elevation, the relationship of the Town Hall to the road and how the landscape will be modified for better access and drainage; elevation and floor plan drawings will show proposed updates to the buildings’ exterior and interior; and photos will illustrate the hidden areas of deterioration.
At noon, there will a presentation to explain the needs that will be met by continuing the renovation of the Town Hall. Architect John McCullough will explain how the building will be lifted and put on a new foundation. We’ll talk about the estimated cost and income sources. If you can’t make this presentation, there are three more upcoming: Tuesday, February 20, East Calais Recreation Center, 6pm; Tuesday, February 27, Adamant Co-op, 4pm; Thursday, March 1, Maple Corner Community Center, 6pm.
The Town Hall Committee meets every Wednesday at the Town Office at 8am. The meetings are open to the public, and you are welcome to join us. And we are: Architect John McCullough; Blue Barn Players Artie and Nancy Toulis; Selectboard members Denise Wheeler and Clif Emmons; Selectboard Administrator Jonathan Williams; Historic Preservation Commission members Scott Bassage and David Schutz; Town Treasurer Donna Fitch.
