NOW READING: The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (2009)
This is a story about the love and friendship between Henry Lee, a Chinese-American boy, and Keiko Okabe, a Japanese-American girl, during the internment in World War II.
The story begins as Henry has just lost his wife Ethel to cancer and is feeling a bit lost. It is announced that The Panama Hotel, deserted since WWII, has been bought and the new owners found a basement full of belonging of Japanese residents who were interned. Finding items belonging to his long-lost love Keiko, especially a cherished record, becomes Henry’s goal.
