The Chinese New Year is an exciting time for sweeping away bad luck and welcoming in good fortune. Come enjoy a celebration as we ring in the Year of the Dog at Lake Champlain Waldorf School in Shelburne on Saturday, February 17 from 10 am to noon.
Kids (ages 4-10 and their families) can learn to write their names in Chinese, make a dragon puppet, learn to play Mahjong, join a dragon parade, and hear a traditional Chinese folktale. Everyone will leave with a paper envelope containing play money–a traditional token of good fortune. This festival was inspired by the Waldorf School's International Program, and our Chinese high school students, who are helping with the planning of this celebration, are looking forward to sharing their traditions. Bring your family to experience first hand how Waldorf students learn about other cultures, it is through song, story, food, and art that our students experience cultures far from home, and get a window into how other people live and celebrate.
The school is located at 359 Turtle Lane, Shelburne.
