Stowe Free Library: Do You Know Your History?

Past event
Mar 8, 2018, 7 to 8 PM

Join the Friend of the Stowe Free Library on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 7pm, in welcoming Ed McGuire, a past-president of the VT Genealogy Library & the VT French-Canadian Genealogical Society. Ed will be discussing how to get started in researching your ancestors, where to look for records (both physical and digital) and how the field of genealogy has changed recently.

Topics that Ed will cover include where to find records, both in Vermont and in the USA/Canada, including the major repositories like the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Allen County Public Library, New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston and Vermont repositories, including our own Vermont Genealogy Library. Ed will also cover the major changes to the field that have occurred in the past decade including free online education & blogs, Facebook, software tools and DNA testing.

Ed specializes in covering Irish family history and genetic genealogy including all types of DNA tests and all the major testing companies. Ed has been researching his Irish, English, German and Quebec ancestors for over 35 years and in the process has made almost every genealogical mistake possible. He and his wife, Sue, live in Hinesburg, Vermont.

Light refreshments will be served.
