Black History Month Celebration

Past event
Feb 24, 2018, 6:30 to 8 PM

Come and join the Wolcott UMC and the Wolcott Historical Society as we celebrate Black History Month with an Open House at the church and a program about the church's founder and builder, the Rev. George S. Brown, the first African American Methodist pastor in the state of Vermont. We will talk about the life and ministry of this amazing man, who was also a missionary to Liberia from 1837 - 1843, lost his preaching credentials in a political battle with the white Superintendent of the Mission, and had to come to Vermont in the early 1850's before having his preaching credentials restored.

Please join us to learn more about this unusual and unique aspect of Wolcott Town History. Light refreshments will be served and special music will be provided by "Girl's Night Out."

Snow date - February 24.
