The ONE WORLD LIBRARY PROJECT invites community members as well as high school students to attend a special program at Holley Hall next Wednesday, February 7 from 10-11 a.m. when award-winning author Tanya Lee Stone will discuss and answer questions about her book "Girl Rising" which celebrates girls' resilience against all odds.
Please note: the event time has been changed to 10-11 am.
In this FREE EVENT, Stone will talk about how removing barriers to girls’ education in developing countries creates better lives, not only for the girls, but also for safer, healthier, and more prosperous communities.
"Girl Rising", a global campaign for girls’ education, was initiated by a team of journalists “to change the way the world values girls and to ensure girls everywhere can be full and equal participants in society.” For her 2017 book, Author Tanya Lee Stone gathered new research to illuminate the facts behind the 2013 film of the same name, examining barriers to education —early child marriage and childbearing, slavery, sexual trafficking, gender discrimination, and poverty.
This program is offered by the One World Library Project. Please note that it has been scheduled during the day to encourage broad attendance by middle and high school students as well as community members. The challenging topics covered may not be suitable for younger children. It is supported in part by the Vermont Humanities Council and is open to the public and accessible to individuals with disabilities.
