On Monday night, 7 PM at the Richmond Free Library, all Richmond community members are invited to see a new map designed to help our town meet its goals for planning, conservation and development.
The map covers local core forest areas, deer winter habitat, riparian corridors, cliffs and ledges, vernal pools, wetlands and potential wildlife corridors. It’s the most comprehensive map to date of the natural communities that make our area so ecologically productive and inviting to two- and four-footed species alike. The map is the product of several months of on-the-ground studies and other research by Arrowwood Environmental, a local consulting firm.
The free presentation will also give you a chance to answer the question, how can our town make the best use of the map? Members of our planning and conservation commissions will be on hand to discuss the options and gather ideas from the audience. Pre-registration is not required for the session.
The mapping work is part of the Science to Action Project, a cooperative effort among the towns of Bolton, Huntington, Jericho and Richmond to improve the understanding and management of the rich and diverse natural resources that make our area so special.
