Friends, with the tragic police killing of Nathan Giffin in Montpelier still fresh in our mind, I have asked Professor Alex Vitale to be my guest on my radio show, Gathering Peace this Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 9:00 AM. Vitale is a Professor of Sociology and coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project at Brooklyn College. His most recent book, The End of Policing, examines the dramatic and unprecedented expansion of policing in the US in the last 40 years. We will discuss this disturbing trend, what alternatives to policing are being used in other countries and tried in the US. I will also be opening the phones for listeners to call in to talk about their reaction to the tragedy in Montpelier and any concerns they may have about policing in Vermont. All viewpoints are welcome.
The interview with Professor Vitale will begin this Tuesday at 9:10 AM. Tune into WGDR 91.1 FM, WGDH 91.7 FM, or listen to the live stream at www.wgdr.org; you can also hear us on Facebook.
As always, your questions or comments are welcome, the number at the station is: 802-454-7762.
