A Tribute to Marcel Marceau at the Lanpher Library

Past event
Jan 18, 2014, 3:30 to 4 PM

On Saturday, January 18th, the Lanpher Library is hosting two programs with Rob Mermin, the founder of Circus Smirkus, and student of Marcel Marceau, the famous French mime.
At 1:00, The Art of Mime: playing with the imagination through pantomime acting. We will explore the silent acting
of Marcel Marceau, as described in the children's book Monsieur Marceau by Leda Schubert. With pantomime games, we use the body to portray the world around us: our hands become fluttering birds, or trees, and we can walk against an invisible wind, and tell stories without using words. The workshop is for ages 8-16. Space is limited. There are only a few spaces left. If your child is serious about attending, please call the library 888-4628 to register.
At 3:00 For General Audiences: "The Silent Language of the Soul" A Tribute to Marcel Marceau. In this presentation, Rob will share memories of training with the masters, Marcel Marceau, and his teacher, Etienne Decroux; he will demonstrate the art of pantomime, relate personal antecdotes, and show rare film clips of Marceau and Decroux performing and teaching. For those of you who remember seeing Marceau, who passed away in 2007, it will be a treat to rediscover the essence of the art form he made popular around the world, and which he called "The Silent Language of the Soul."
